On visiting the boat show recently we couldn't resist, so we bought a 3 metre rib with a 6hp outboard motor. It will take 3.5 adults of 600 kg in weight.

 Technically Speaking

This RIB is ready to give years of trouble free service. It is a treat to handle with great performance and sea going capabilities. It has a double moulded GRP resin single hull which provides good stability and is lighter than a double moulded hull. Suzumar tubes for all craft are constructed from highly durable three layer fabric with 3 air chambers. Power for the 310 is provided by a  Suzuki 4-stroke 6hp outboard motor. Overall Length is 3.09m, Width 1.52m, Dry Weight 52.3 kg.

Included in the package are oars, 5 life jackets of different sizes,  spare fuel tank,  storage bag and  foot pump, anchor, flares and 2 Motorola Walkie Talkies, although a mobile phone is just as good.

Plus an inflatable doughnut and tow rope. The engine on the rib is only medium powered so it won't pull the doughnut at high speed.

Exploring the Coast

Just a few hundred yards along the coast are large quite spectacular secluded soft sanded coves, in fact these are so wonderful that its just like being on your own private Caribbean desert  island (and that's no exaggeration)  The rib makes it an ideal way of accessing these and  allows you to spend the day having a great time, partying, barbecuing etc

The cost of hiring the above is £200 per week. We Also have a boatman to show you how it all works. He charges £20 for his boat drill.

Diving in the Area

The area is famous for its wreck diving, which boasts some of the best in the UK, with over 300 wrecks between Rame head and Fowey. To find out about some of the wrecks click the following. www.looedivers.com

But of particular interest is, The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth has won the bidding for the decommissioned warship, HMS Scylla, which will now be sunk off Whitsand Bay, Cornwall, to create an artificial reef. This will be the first of its kind in Europe, making the West country Britain's diving capital.

HMS Scylla will be sunk early spring 2004 and will provide a unique opportunity for divers to explore the reef. The reef is expected to become a breeding ground for fish and other marine life and underwater web cams will mean that it can also be used for educational purposes.

Beauty and Inspiration

Cornwall lies alongside the warm Gulf Stream and its mild climate makes all manner of plants, including sub-tropical ones, flourish here. South East Cornwall is a veritable gardeners' paradise: dozens of wonderful gardens, large and small, public and private, are open to visitors through most of the year, and are easily accessible from here.

These include the famous Lost Gardens of Heligan, gardens of The National Trust and  many more properties open under the National Gardens Scheme

Spring comes early to Cornwall and, at this more peaceful time, the gardens are filled with delicate camellias and magnolias, for which the area is renowned. Azaleas and rhododendrons follow, competing with the beauty of cherry blossoms and primroses. The month of May sees the opening of the Cornwall Festival of Spring Gardens at venues throughout the county - an event not to be missed!

In summer, the roses make the bees, and visitors, dizzy with their perfume and in streamside dells, huge gunneras and acanthus shelter dainty candelabra primulas and ferns. Finally, Autumn turns all to red and russet, gold and claret and bright  berries and seed heads adorn the trees and borders. Whatever time you visit, you'll find sights to take your breath away and ideas to inspire.

The Eden Project - a Living Theatre of Plants

One experience not to be missed is the spectacular and unique Eden Project, which opened in spring 2001. The Project is easily accessible from your accommodation in South East Cornwall and is guaranteed to leave you enchanted, inspired and overawed! Built inside a crater 50 metres deep, the huge biomes constitute the biggest plant conservatory on earth!

Within the largest of the three giant spheres, (which is tall enough to hold the Tower of London) you'll experience the sights, smells and sheer scale of the rainforest when walking around the lofty gantry suspended in the top of the dome.

As well as introducing you to over 70,000 plants from all over the world, the project reminds us all of our dependence on plants for our own survival and how vital it is to conserve and value them. For an introduction to an unforgettable experience, visit the Eden Project Web site on www.edenproject.com
